This Fairtrade and Organic certified, washed Bourbon coffee comes from the Abakundakawa Washing Station, a cooperative founded in 1999. The name "Abakundakawa" translates to "those who love coffee." Around 20 years ago, Abakundakawa initiated the women's group Hingakawa, meaning "grow coffee". Hingakawa is a women-led group formed to unite those whose husbands were either victims or perpetrators of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Through coffee cultivation and processing, they foster reconciliation by working together to produce high-quality coffee.

When the group started in 2006, it had about 68 members. Over time, more women joined, and today, Hingakawa has grown to 916 members representing 814 families.

Early on, the women envisioned processing their coffee independently from the men to improve its quality and market it internationally as coffee produced exclusively by women.

With the income from their coffee sales, the group invests in various social projects. These include sewing initiatives, purchasing new land for planting coffee trees to boost production, and distributing goats and pigs to members. These animals not only provide additional income but also supply fertilizer for coffee and other crops. Members have also received financial support for health insurance, school fees for their children, and other essentials.

Today, Hingakawa is a well-established group recognized in the international coffee market. The cooperative produces more than three containers of coffee annually and has recently launched a guesthouse project ready for operation.
