ISMAM | WASCHED | FAIRTRADE & ORGANIC

Indígenas de la Sierra Madre de Motozintla (ISMAM) was founded in 1985 by Mayan farmers from different rural communities, coming together in a collective effort to address the crisis affecting Mexican coffee growers. Their motivation was the belief that uniting many producers and ensuring good quality would create a stronger market position.

Currently, the organization boasts more than 541 active members, with over 100 being women. These members are spread across 70 communities and operate in 12 municipalities within the state of Chiapas. They collectively manage 2,133 hectares of coffee cultivated under organic production standards, promoting shaded growth agriculture. ISMAM holds certifications for Organic Fair Trade and Bird Friendly practices.
